The working guide

What you can work through.

Product data and catalog work
  • Check whether values describe the same variant, unit and definition before treating them as contradictory.
  • Have an accountable product owner establish which evidence applies to the current item.
  • Correct the source and verify every affected publication before closing the issue.

The product feed gives one width, the destination gives another, and the manual seems to contain both. For someone arriving through a paid ChatGPT ad, the question is practical: which value should guide the purchase? A better-looking table cannot establish the answer. The advertiser needs to determine what applies to the item actually being sold.

Treat the contradiction as a specific product issue. Capture the competing statements, check their meaning, have the appropriate owner assess the evidence, and verify the correction throughout publication. The objective is a traceable factual answer, even when the temporary answer must be that the information is still unverified.

Capture the disagreement before editing it

Create a short issue record containing the product identifier, variant and disputed attribute. Save the exact wording from each location, its address or document name, and the date checked. Include any revision identifier shown in the supplier’s evidence.

Describe the customer decision affected. Does the measurement determine where the item fits? Does composition influence the selected finish? Does an accessory statement change what needs to be ordered? This context lets the product owner prioritise the issue without interpreting an isolated screenshot.

Record the ad destination and the variant it opened. Two accurate statements about different variants can otherwise look like a content conflict. When the real problem is an ad leading to the wrong variant, fix that handover while preserving the correct facts about each item.

Establish the definition before choosing a value

Compare units, measurement basis and scope first. Product dimensions and packaging dimensions answer different questions. Net weight and shipping weight are different facts too. A value without its definition cannot be assessed simply by comparing numbers.

In a hypothetical example, a storage box is described as 40 centimetres wide in the feed and 42 centimetres wide on the product page. The manual mentions both internal space and external dimensions. Start by checking which width each source describes, rather than selecting whichever number appears most often.

If evidence for the exact variant confirms that 40 refers to the inside and 42 to the outside, both values may be useful with accurate labels. If the manual covers a different revision, the issue remains open. A plausible explanation is not necessarily a documented explanation for the item currently in stock.

Assign someone to establish the applicable fact

Choose a product owner who can verify the relationship between documentation and the current item. The supplier may need to confirm a revision, change date or production series. The editor then needs a clear decision, rather than several contradictory attachments from which to select a convenient answer.

Avoid an automatic rule that the newest document always wins. It may describe a revision that is not yet on sale while an older document still covers current stock. Equally, an existing product page does not become stronger evidence merely because customers have already used it.

Record the approved value, its definition, the variants covered and the supporting evidence. Explain why the alternative statement does not apply. If the decision changes a promise on the destination, carry it into the destination claim register so the approval covers the final wording.

Manage uncertainty while the issue is investigated

When the conflict affects a material purchase decision, the responsible advertiser should assess whether to withdraw the affected item or ad from active promotion until verification is complete. Keep the action specific enough to manage other accurate products separately. This is an editorial working method, not a guarantee of platform approval.

Customers already on the page need an honest explanation. Identify the fact being checked and explain how they can obtain an answer. Do not replace the contradiction with vague copy that still implies the desired characteristic is present. Keep other verified facts useful and accessible.

Give the issue an accountable role and a concrete next action, such as obtaining the supplier’s revision confirmation. An internal awaiting response status should specify which response is missing. Otherwise, temporary uncertainty can quietly become permanent.

Correct the record used by the next export

Map where every published copy obtains its value. There may be a central product record, a market-specific description, an old download and a feed produced by a separate export. An edit made only on the product page can be overwritten the next time its source refreshes.

Correct the authorised product record first, then update affected presentations. Do not silently rewrite the supplier’s original document. Request a corrected version or publish a clearly scoped explanation that the product owner can substantiate. Check every language into which the disputed statement was translated.

OpenAI documents asynchronous feed processing, so transferring a file does not establish that a correction has taken effect. Changing ad creative also begins another review. Inspect the relevant outcomes after updating. Product Feeds, Campaign Management.

Workflow

From conflicting values to a verified correction

  1. Capture the conflict

Record each value with its source, variant and version.

  2. Check the meaning

Check units, measurement basis and scope before comparing values.

    Checkpoint
  3. Resolve with evidence

The product owner establishes the applicable fact or keeps the uncertainty explicit.

    Checkpoint
  4. Trace the correction

Verify the source record, export, ad content and destination after the update.

    Checkpoint

Close the issue at the customer’s destination

After the update, inspect the affected fact in the source record, exported item, ad content and page reached by its address. Check the linked document too if the manual was part of the disagreement. Read the surrounding copy so a corrected label is not still contradicted by an older paragraph.

The product-feed guide gives a broader sequence for recurring catalogue work. Keep this issue’s closure precise: record which occurrences were checked, which evidence resolved the question and who approved the correction. A successful transfer or completed edit alone is not that closure.

Finally, add a preventive check where the problem started. If packaging dimensions entered the product field, correct the field mapping. If an old manual was linked, review how documents are associated with revisions. The customer should encounter the same verified meaning throughout the journey from the ChatGPT ad to the next product decision.

Sources and scope

Resolve factual contradictions between product evidence, feeds and destinations by verifying meaning and version, assigning responsibility and tracing the correction to the customer's decision.
