Replace best and leading with evidence in ChatGPT ads

Rewrite best, leading and superior in ChatGPT ads by finding the actual buying criterion and choosing a specific feature or a properly bounded comparison.

The working guide

What you can work through.

Writing and reviewing ads
  • Find the buying criterion hidden inside the superlative.
  • Match evidence to the exact advertised product and variant.
  • Keep the message useful after removing the ranking.

“The best tool trolley for your workshop” sounds confident. It does not tell a buyer whether the trolley will fit through a narrow doorway. When reviewing ChatGPT ads, replacing that phrase should involve more than deleting an enthusiastic adjective. Find the useful product information that the writer was trying to express, then give the reader a way to judge it.

This guide concerns claims of rank: best, leading, number one and superior. The process below is an editorial recommendation, not a prediction of ad approval or performance. Its output is a replacement sentence and the evidence that keeps that sentence accurate. It should leave the ad more informative, rather than merely less assertive.

Start with the unfinished explanation

Ask whoever proposed “best” to finish the thought: “It is best because …”. The answer might mention a small footprint, included servicing, fewer operating steps or a particular material. These are different propositions. Each can be investigated without establishing that the product outranks every alternative on the market.

Consider a fictional manufacturer of tool trolleys for small workshops. The sales team uses “best” because a narrow model is useful where a wide cabinet is awkward. Space is the actual buying criterion. A statement about size can help the intended buyer without making a universal statement about which trolley every workshop should purchase.

Write that criterion beside the original sentence. If the team cannot explain what the superlative means in practical terms, it has not yet identified a replacement message. Returning with “premium” or “world class” simply substitutes another evaluation. Return to the product facts and ask what a person comparing trolleys would need to inspect.

Choose the kind of statement you can support

A specification is one option: “Tool trolley with a 42 cm cabinet width.” This can be checked against the advertised model. It does not require information about competing products. Adding “fits every tight space” would turn a limited measurement into a new, much broader promise, so resist that seemingly helpful ending.

A function is another option: “Lock the drawers with one central lock.” Confirm that the advertised version actually includes this mechanism. The reader can decide whether it matters. The related guide to writing specific headlines helps decide whether that function deserves the headline or belongs further down the message.

A bounded comparison is a third option. You need evidence identifying what was compared, the conditions and the date. Without that evidence, choose a feature or function instead. A salesperson’s conviction, an enthusiastic customer comment and an old award are not interchangeable with a current comparison covering the market you claim to lead.

Open the evidence before compressing the claim

Read the drawing, specification or comparison report itself. Check the model, variant and date. A trolley can have a 42 cm cabinet width while its overall width is larger because of the handle. For passage clearance, check the full external width, including handles and other protruding parts, against the available space. A correct number with the wrong interpretation still creates an unhelpful ad.

Make a note of the limits. A load rating for one drawer does not necessarily describe the capacity of the whole trolley. A test on level flooring does not establish performance on gravel. The ad need not contain every technical condition, but the chosen sentence must stay accurate after the explanation is shortened.

Use a broader claim and evidence matrix when the campaign contains many competing assertions. The decision here is narrower: which verified property replaces this particular claim of superiority and helps this particular buying decision? Keeping that question visible prevents a rewriting session from becoming an unfocused product audit.

Compare three sentences, not three synonyms

The fictional trolley team could put these versions side by side:

Draft Wording Editorial judgement
Original The best trolley for your workshop Neither the ranking nor the audience is bounded
Concrete Tool trolley with a 42 cm cabinet width Useful if cabinet width is the verified measurement
Decision led Compare trolley dimensions for your workshop Invites the right check without promising a fit

The most detailed sentence is not automatically the strongest headline. If distinguishing cabinet width from overall width requires a long explanation, the decision led version may communicate more clearly. Keep the precise information where the buyer can inspect it. Precision includes choosing the right level of claim, not only adding more digits.

The three versions also expose a useful choice. Are you telling the reader a fact that settles an important question, or inviting them to check information that depends on their circumstances? Either can work as an honest message. Do not pretend the first is possible when the buyer still needs to measure their doorway.

Decision guide

What supports the word best?

  1. Best on the market

No defined comparison exists. Remove the ranking.

    Reconsider
  2. The verified cabinet width

The drawing specifies a 42 cm cabinet width. This does not establish whether the whole trolley fits through the passage.

  3. Check the overall width

Clearance requires the full external width, including handles. Compare it with the unobstructed aisle width.

Check the combined impression

A medal illustration or a large number one can reintroduce the ranking removed from the wording. Review the image, title and body together. Also check whether the destination opens with a stronger claim. This article concerns the ad sentence, but a reader should not encounter a contradictory promise immediately after clicking.

OpenAI defines an ad through its content and destination, supporting review of that combination. Campaign Management

Hints supply context rather than exact keywords or guaranteed placements. A superlative in a hint therefore secures no delivery. Targeting

Preserve the reason for the rewrite

Save the original sentence, the replacement and a reference to the supporting document. Identify the person in your team who can verify the property when the range changes. This is more useful than leaving a comment saying “less salesy”, because a future writer can see exactly which factual distinction matters.

Ask a colleague to read the revised line without the specification sheet. What property do they understand? What conditions do they assume? If their interpretation is “it fits anywhere”, narrow the sentence. If it is “I can compare the overall measurements”, you have supplied a useful next action without taking the decision away from them.

If the remaining copy still relies on vague praise, continue with the guide to removing unnecessary adjectives. For this revision, the completion criterion stays specific: the unsupported first place has become a supported fact or an honest invitation to check it.
