What you can work through.

Writing and reviewing ads
  • Agree the offer meaning before changing the expression.
  • Translate the customer task and commitment, not just individual words.
  • Review the English ad with its actual destination and available service.

A fluent English version can be a poor translation of a Swedish ChatGPT ad. It may sound persuasive while quietly replacing an enquiry with a booking, turning an introductory call into a completed assessment, or making a possible benefit sound certain. Word-for-word accuracy presents the opposite problem: the offer survives, but the sentence feels unnatural or unclear.

The useful task is to preserve meaning while rebuilding expression. Here, transcreation means an editorial adaptation of an ad for another language. It does not establish that an account can advertise in a particular country or that the business can serve everyone who reads English. Keep those operational decisions separate from the quality of the copy.

Agree what cannot change

Before translating, write a plain-language description of the offer. State what the customer receives, who it suits, which conditions matter and what happens after the proposed action. Remove slogans from this description. Add a short note identifying anything the ad must not start promising. This becomes a meaning reference for the English writer.

For a fictional team-workshop provider, the next step is an initial conversation about needs and possible formats. The conversation does not include a finished action plan. A broad Swedish phrase such as “Ta nästa steg med teamet” therefore cannot freely become “Get your team’s action plan.” The English version has improved specificity by inventing a deliverable.

A better factual brief says that the reader can discuss a workshop suited to the team’s task. That allows an expression such as “Discuss your team’s workshop needs” without asking the writer to decode an abstract slogan. The example illustrates an editorial choice, not evidence that one line attracts more clicks or performs better on the platform.

Workflow

Change the expression, preserve the offer

  1. Lock the meaning

“Book an initial call” means discussing a possible workshop. No completed plan is delivered at this step.

  2. Write naturally

“Discuss your workshop needs” can express the purpose better than a literal rendering of “take the next step”.

    Checkpoint
  3. Check the meaning back

If the English says “Get your action plan”, the offer has changed. Restore the initial conversation.

    Reconsider
  4. Review the whole journey

The English ad’s invitation must lead to the same available next step at the destination.

    Checkpoint
Fictional example: a workshop enquiry must not become a promise of a completed plan.

Choose language for the actual audience

Decide whether to use a particular English spelling convention and apply it consistently. The decision can follow the company’s existing material and intended readers. Do not assume that an English ad implies one nationality or that all English-speaking buyers prefer the same tone. Audience context is more useful than broad cultural stereotypes.

Examine Swedish terms with several possible meanings. “Utbildning” might describe a single course, ongoing education or practical onboarding. “Rådgivning” might mean an introductory discussion or a paid advisory engagement. Select the English term that matches the delivered service. If the product owner cannot explain the distinction, resolve the Swedish brief before treating the translation as complete.

Use a customer vocabulary glossary to preserve product names and recurring terms. Allow documented exceptions where a Swedish word genuinely has different meanings in different offers. Consistency should make the business easier to understand, not force an inaccurate English term into every sentence that shares the same source word.

Rebuild the sentence around the action

A Swedish compound noun may need a brief English explanation. A noun-heavy line may work better with a direct verb. An idiom or pun may need to disappear so the customer task becomes clear. Judge these changes by what the reader understands, rather than by how many words remain close to the original.

Keep the strength of the claim stable. “May help” should not quietly become a promised outcome. Preserve the function of conditions such as “from” before a price or “up to” before an allowance. Do not convert an amount merely by swapping the currency symbol. A different price requires an actual commercial decision about the offer and its applicable conditions.

Brand identity can survive through clarity, address and sentence rhythm even when the wording changes. Practical brand voice rules give the translator better guidance than “keep the same feeling.” If a line resists adaptation, write two plausible English versions and compare how clearly each expresses the intended action. The shorter version is useful only if it still contains what matters.

Run a meaning test without the Swedish text

Give a reviewer the English ad on its own. Ask them what the customer receives, which prerequisites they notice and what happens after the next step. Then compare those answers with the meaning reference. This reveals changes that ordinary proofreading can miss. A grammatically clean sentence is not sufficient when its implied commitment has changed.

A separate back-translation can support the review, but do not grade it by word similarity. Focus on the deliverable, conditions and action. If an enquiry returns as a booking, investigate. If two natural expressions return with different words but describe the same commitment, there may be no problem to fix.

Keep the reviewer from silently resolving ambiguity using knowledge that a new reader would not have. Someone inside the company may know that an “assessment” is only a brief phone call. A potential buyer may reasonably expect a more substantial service. Make the intended scope understandable in the English itself.

Check the surrounding experience

OpenAI separates ad content from ad-group hints. Campaign Management. Review the visible English ad alongside the destination it actually uses. An invitation to discuss the offer needs a comprehensible, available contact step. Do not describe an English-language service when only the advertisement has been translated.

Hints provide context rather than exact language matching. OpenAI: Targeting. A translation should not be justified as a guaranteed way to reach a particular conversation. If contextual descriptions also need adaptation, use the separate hint localisation workflow to preserve their account of the product and use case.

Save the approved language pair together with the meaning reference and the responsible team role. When the offer changes, revisit both versions instead of assuming the English remains equivalent. The finished pair should read naturally in each language while describing the same important facts. Different sentence structures are welcome when they help each reader arrive at the same informed decision.
